Polishing Mops & Adaptors
Polishing & Linishing Compounds
A compound for intermediate buffi ng using
a stitched mop, or fi nal high gloss polishing
using a soft loose-leaf mop. It is suitable for
polishing such materials as plastic, breglass, Bakelite and wood.
Small bars approximately 100 x 27 x 15mm (supplied in packs of 2).
This is an intermediate compound for the
second stage polishing of steels and stainless steels, other hard
metals (ferrous metals) or aluminium alloys. It blends and polishes
minor scratches and marks left behind by the cutting stage (grey
compound). Recommended for use with a soft stitched or a
rm loose-leaf mop. Small bars approximately 100 x 27 x 15mm
(supplied in packs of 2), large bars 200 x 50 x 50mm.
Blue for the fi nal polishing stage, high glossing of brass, copper,
aluminium, steel, stainless steel and hard metals. Best results
come from using a soft loose-leaf mop. Small bars approximately
100 x 27 x 15mm, large bars 200 x 50 x 50mm.
These stitched sisal mops have leather centre washers for use on a
tapered spindle mounted on a bench grinder or a taper pigtail in a
drill chuck. The sisal mop consists of sections, each with a thickness
of approximately 13mm. Sisal fi bres sandwiched between calico
cloth make up each section, which are then spirally stitched. A sisal
mop is more aggressive than a standard stitched mop. Combined
with grey compound the sisal mop has a fast cutting action and
removes scratches left by abrasives or grinding marks. These mops
are particularly useful for fi rst stage heavy duty polishing on steel,
aluminium alloys stainless steel and iron. For best results use a
separate mop for each different compound, mark each mop using
a felt tip pen with the type of compound used. Store mops in
individual plastic bags when not in use.

These mops have metal centres with a 10mm bore, for use with a
straight threaded arbor, mounted in a drill chuck or fl exible shaft.
Each mop is 100mm diameter. There are two cotton mops, rm
or soft for fi nishing work and high glossing. A sisal mop for fi rst
stage preparation on hard metals and a nylon abrasive lap for
prepartion on wood or satin fi nishing of metal. For best results
use a separate mop for each different compound, mark each mop
using a felt tip pen with the type of compound used. Store mops

This arbor enables 10mm bore metal centred polishing mops to
be mounted in a power drill or fl exible shaft. It has a 6mm shank
to fi t into the drill’s chuck. Please note, when using a polishing
mop in a drill or fl exible shaft, it is recommended to use mops no
more than 100mm in diameter.

A simple adaptor which fi ts over the shaft of a bench grinder or
motor and is held in place by a grub screw. The mop is screwed
onto the tapered thread and when the grinder is switched on the
mop climbs up the taper, locking itself in place. These adaptors
make changing mops for different compounds quick and simple.

A good quality fl exible shaft for use in those situations where
it is easier to take the mop to the job rather than the job to the
mop. The power drill (with 43mm collar) is secured to the bench,
preferably with a proper drill clamp, and the shaft is fi xed into the
drill chuck. The pigtail adaptor (503936) is then fi tted to the chuck
on the end of the shaft and a suitable mop screwed onto the
adaptor (we would recommend 3” or 4” diameter).

Each Scruff ball consists of a 75mm
spherical shaped non-woven
nylon mop made up of aluminium
oxide abrasive discs. The
shape and a certain amount of
exibility means you can use them on many different profi led
shapes and surfaces. Available in three grades, they have
many uses. Mainly intended for use on metals although some
interesting effects can be achieved when used on wood. The
most widely used applications are producing a satin or matt
nish on metal, or smoothing and preparing the surface prior
to fi nal polishing with compound and cotton mops. Maximum
10,000rpm. Eye protection must be worn.
